Christine from Storey Digital Art is truly a web designer that understands the value of an artistic design. I love the fact that you get a fair deal with her, she seems to be very straight to the point and the fact that she is a web design teacher… shows that she really know what she is doing. Pretty affordable and attractive sites she offer.
Who are you and where are you located
I teach Multimedia & Web Design and Film, Television & New Media at a local high school on the Gold Coast. However, my part time pursuit is creating affordable, original websites.

What exactly do you do?
Custom Websites, Logo design, Photo Art and Special occasion invitations
Why did you decided to go into the web design industry?
Some 16 years ago my head of department introduced me to a ‘Mac’ and Photoshop 2.5….I have been hooked ever since. Learning the rest of the Adobe suite and developing webpages was just a natural progression.
Tell us a bit more about your expertise, what type of technology do you use for your sites (CMS, flash, animations, multimedia, etc)
I am proficient with Adobe Flash, Photoshop, Illustrator and Dreamweaver. I also use Premier Pro and Final Cut pro. I am presently producing Custom designed sites using these programs which include animations, multimedia (video & slideshows), CSS, sprite widgets, drop down menus, product catalogues, contact forms and some interactivity.
Can you show us one of your previous designs and tell us a bit of the history behind that web development?

Alison wanted a new look for her dance site yet still retain her original logo (yellow and Pink).I revamped her logo, created an appropriate background and banner and used transparent white overlays to display content. She loves it and so do her students as the design really suits her industry.
What are the most important things a customer needs to know about web design..
Less equals More.In the design world that means simple, uncluttered, easy to navigate sites are more effective!
How does your web design process works? Where do you get your ideas, inspiration..
Everywhere…..from nature to artists….to the internet…there are so many sources inspiration. I always look at competition websites before creating a site and then try to design something original but suited to the client’s needs.
What is a normal day in your life as a web designer…
>> -My life is divided between teaching, marking, designing and creating
>> websites and learning php. I am moving away from the static and
>> moving towards dynamic pages. With constantly changing and evolving
>> technology the learning curve never stops.
>>
>> *What other services your company offer apart from web design?*
>> -Logo Design & Branding, Photo Art, Special occasion invitations.
>> *
>> Tell us about your philosophy behind web design? What are the most
>> important things for you when developing a website?*
>> – There are too many coders who do not have a basic understanding of
>> elements and principles of Design which has resulted in a plethora of
>> poorly composed webpages. Web design should be impactful without
>> being invasive. A good design uses a balanced layout, appropriate
>> colours, easy to read fonts, and clear navigation. It should be
>> original and visibly reflect the product or service being provided.
>>
>> *We see a lot of web designers today… almost any Tom, Dick or Harry
>> seems
>> to be a web designer. In your point of view, what makes a good web
>> designer.*
>> -The ability to effectively manipulate the basic elements and
>> principles of design to create an aesthetic original web site.It is
>> artistic statement, not just a production line.
>>
>> *Where do you see the web design industry in Australia going*?
>> -
>> If we continue to develop subjects like Multimedia and Web Design in
>> our schools that teach DESIGN elements NOT just coding than this can
>> only enhance an industry that is already growing rapidly.
If you need to define your business/services in just 5 words…..
Affordable Original Aesthetic Web Design
Why people should hire you? What makes you a Top web designer? (this is your time to brag!)
Graphic and web design does not have to be expensive to achieve effective, functional and aesthetic results. I am an individual, not part of a large company or business therefore I can afford to keep my prices low. For me it is not about making money, it is about keeping abreast of a constantly changing industry (as any good teacher should) and doing something I really enjoy.
